How the System Works
The project uses C++ classes, vectors, and file handling to organize student information and respond with targeted answers.
Collect Information
Course data, advising information, alumni insight, transfer resources, and internship or research details are gathered from BMCC-related sources.
Organize Data
The information is structured using separate C++ classes and container-based logic to keep each feature clear and manageable.
Track Student Progress
Completed courses can be saved and used to filter curriculum guidance, helping students see what they already finished and what comes next.
Generate Helpful Responses
The chatbot provides filtered, concise, and relevant support so students can understand their options more quickly and confidently.
Project Impact
This solution aims to reduce confusion, improve planning, and make advising more accessible for students who may not always be able to get immediate help.
Clearer Planning
Students can understand degree progress and next steps without feeling lost in complicated degree maps or scattered information.
Better Decisions
Career guidance, alumni motivation, and transfer resources help students make more informed academic and professional choices.
Time and Cost Savings
By helping students avoid unnecessary classes or poor course sequencing, the app can support smarter progress toward graduation.
Meet the Team
This project was developed collaboratively, with each team member contributing to a specific part of the chatbot experience.
Phyo
Worked on advising support, career pathways, alumni insight, and transfer-related guidance while also coordinating communication, scheduling, and project progress.
Yeffry
Built logic that connects a student profile to the curriculum so completed courses can be filtered and a more customized path to graduation can be shown.
Dylan
Developed the completed-course history feature so students can save courses to a file and better track what they have already finished.
Ramim
Organized internship and research information into clear C++ modules so students can quickly explore opportunities and understand requirements.
Future Vision
We want to keep improving this project by creating a stronger user interface, expanding it into a web and mobile-friendly platform, and eventually integrating an LLM for more dynamic, personalized, and human-like interaction.
In the long term, this concept could grow beyond GIS and become a broader advising resource for CS, CIS, and eventually all BMCC students across different majors.
